**TEMPLE GRANDIN, PhD - KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Temple Grandin, PhD, is one of the most accomplished and well-known adults with autism in the world. In February of 2017, Dr. Grandin was named to the National Women’s Hall of Fame. She was selected by Time magazine as one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World” (2010). Dr. Grandin’s fascinating life was brought to the screen in 2010 in the HBO production full-length film, "Temple Grandin", which claimed seven Emmy Awards, including outstanding made for TV movie. She has been featured on NPR (National Public Radio), major television programs, such as the BBC special "The Woman Who Thinks Like a Cow", ABC's Primetime Live, The Today Show, Larry King Live, 48 Hours and 20/20, and has been written about in many national publications, such as Time magazine, People magazine, Forbes, U.S. News and World Report, and New York Times. This will be Temple's 7th USAAA appearance. Dr. Grandin received the US Autism & Asperger Association Chairman's award in 2015. There will be a book signing after her presentation. Dr. Aung-Din has practiced General Neurology & Neuro-Psychiatry in Sarasota, FL for over 25 years. He is board-certified by American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology and member of American Academy of Neurology. Dr. DeMio is the Medical Director for the Whole Health and Wellness Centers located in Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. His practice focuses on the diagnosis and treatment for individuals with Autism, Asperger Syndrome and related disorders. In addition to his practice, Dr. DeMio is an ER Physician at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals. Dr. DeMio is board-certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. **ALIX GENEROUS - Speaker and Panelist

Alix Generous (born 1992) is a professional speaker, neuroscientist, author, tech consultant, and observational comedian. Her TED talk My Inner Life… has received over 1.4 million views. Her works have been featured on NPR, Bloomberg Business week, TEDx, and the Sydney Opera House. Through high impact media, comedy, and creative storytelling, she advocates for scientific literacy, child welfare, and for the advancement of Mental Diversity in STEM and the entertainment industry. From 2013 to September 2016, she was the co-founder for Podium (formerly AutismSees), a social impact company that creates technology to help high functioning autistic millennials improve their presentation skills. In her 2015 TED talk, she comedically shares how tech improved her public speaking skills. *KRISTIN SELBY GONZALEZ - Speaker and Panelist

Kristin Selby Gonzalez is a leading international spokesperson, educator, radio show host, writer within the autism community, and the mother of a boy with autism. Kristin graduated from UCLA and is a former elementary school teacher. Kristin has been working with her son for over ten years and has seen him progress from very withdrawn with no language, to a playful and interactive boy who now can speak, rides a bike, takes karate and gymnastic lessons. She possesses an extraordinary body of knowledge and experience with both educational and biomedical interventions for autism. Kristin is the President and Chairman of the Autism Hope Alliance. THEODORE HENDERSON, MD, PhD - Speaker and Panelist

Dr. Henderson established his private practice, Child, Adolescent, and General Psychiatry in Centennial Colorado in July of 2000. Dr. Henderson brings a unique blend of expertise in psychopharmacology, neurobiology, and an understanding of human nature to the practice of psychiatry. He trained in Psychiatry at the prestigious Barnes/Jewish Hospitals at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Kaplan is a parent of child affected and afflicted by autism. He is the Founder and Chairman of US Autism & Asperger Association (USAAA). Dr. Kaplan was the chief investigator for the first study on early diagnosis of autism. He is the author of Diagnosis Autism: Now What? 10 Steps to Improve Treatment Outcomes; A Parent-Physician Team Approach. Lori Knowles-Jimenez, a mother of a recovered child (Daniel) and General Manager of New Beginnings Nutritionals, became involved with autism after her youngest son was diagnosed in 2000. Dr. McManmon grew up the youngest son in a family of nine children. He is the father of six children and sixteen grandchildren. He is the Founder of the College Internship Program (CIP) in 1984 with six campuses across the US. He obtained his Doctorate in Special Education from the University of Nevada. Dr. Partington is the director of Behavior Analysts, Inc., and provides services to children and their families at the STARS Clinic in Walnut Creek, California. ringAlexander Ring has participated in the exploration and development of novel brain imaging and neuromodulatory technologies throughout his career. He has discovered and worked on the characterization of neurological markers for psychiatric and neurocognitive disorders and delays. In 2010 he joined Newport Brain Research Lab where he develops and advances the administration of noninvasive EEG and EKG-guided brain stimulation. Dr. Dan Rossignol, MD FAAFP is a board certified family physician. He received his Doctorate of Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia and completed his residency in family medicine at the University of Virginia.  Coming from an academic background, Dr. Rossignol searched the medical literature looking for a solution after both of his children were diagnosed with autism. He has made it his mission to research and publish in autism. Since 2006, he has 55 papers, abstracts, editorials, and book chapters concerning autism and related conditions. Dr. Shaw is board certified in the fields of clinical chemistry and toxicology by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Before he founded The Great Plains Laboratory, Inc., Dr. Shaw worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Children's Mercy Hospital, University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Medicine, and Smith Kline Laboratories. **STEPHEN M. SHORE, EdD - Speaker and Panelist

Dr. Shore was diagnosed with "Atypical Development with strong autistic tendencies." Dr. Shore was viewed as "too sick" to be treated on an outpatient basis and recommended for institutionalization. Nonverbal until four, and with much help from his parents, teachers, and others, Dr. Shore completed his doctoral degree in special education at Boston University in 2008 with a focus on helping people on the autism spectrum develop their capacities to the fullest extent possible. MARLO THURMAN, PhD - Speaker

Marlo Thurman, PhD is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Northern Colorado and completed her PhD in Special Education in the summer of 2016. She started her work with special needs children in 1986. Marlo developed a special interest in the unique needs of those individuals who were both highly intelligent and asynchronously developed. Through her private practice she carried out this interest, specializing in assessment, advocacy, cognitive training, sensory and behavior support, and socio-emotional coaching. Gil Tippy, PsyD, is the Clinical Director of the Rebecca School in Manhattan. As one of the founders of the school, he has been responsible for evaluating over 300 children, and has been central in creating both the academic and clinical programs. He was directly supervised by Dr. Stanley Greenspan, creator of the Developmental, Individual difference, Relationship-based (DIR®) model from the beginning of the school until Dr. Greenspan's untimely passing in 2010. Theresa K. Wrangham became a parent advocate as a result of her daughter Deanna's life-threatening asthma, as well as her daughter Rachel's diagnosis of PDD-NOS. In 2001 she co-founded the Autism Society of Boulder County (ASBC) in Colorado and served five terms as its president and, served on the Board of Directors for the Autism Society of Colorado. Theresa collaborated with Google to create Project Spectrum. She has been featured in local and national television and print news reports and recently was featured in Parade Magazine. **NICO BOSKOVIC - Panelist

Niko Boskovic is a 16 year old from Portland, OR who is passionate about autistic people's rights. He began attending a gen ed high school in 2015 after being homeschooled and attending an ABA program since age 3, and is on track to receive an Oregon diploma in 2019. He plans to study science in college. Niko's life was transformed after he learned to communicate using a letterboard three years ago. Now he wants to apply his energy to changing the world to be a better place for people who aren't verbal. Niko believes he is part of a civil rights movement that will have a profound impact on American society, and is writing a book about his experience being autistic.

*ALEX DASSISE - Panelist

Alex Dassise is a 19 year old student entrepreneur with a passion for creating solutions for those with developmental disabilities. Alex's passion comes through creating a solution for his younger brother, Stefan Seiji, who lives with autism. Through their struggle to connect as brothers, Alex started his own company, Seiji's Bridge. In one year, Seiji's Bridge has been able to invent two solutions that have facilitated a more meaningful relationship between Alex and Stefan. Alex has completed two years at Oregon State University and has graduated from the Oregon State Advantage Accelerator. Alex has most recently started to work with the Department of Human Services and the Oregon Health Authority. There, he will be assisting several Speech Language Pathologists and using his company's devices to facilitate new styles of social reciprocity. Alex is very excited to be speaking on the Siblings Panel and speak about his experiences with Stefan Seiji. More...

*PATTY DOBBS GROSS - Panelist

Patty is the Founder and Executive Director of the North Star Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children with social, emotional, or educational challenges by pairing them with quality autism assistance dogs. Inspired by her own journey as an “autism mom” and her desire to help her son Dan who is on the spectrum, Patty became a pioneer in the field of breeding, training, and placing autism assistance dogs with families who have children with special needs. She broke away from traditional modalities of training a service dog and designed a unique program tailored to the specific needs of each child. More...

**SPENCER KELLY - Panelist

Spencer Kelly is a 15 year old young entrepreneur with Asperger Syndrome. Despite the journey, he has attained a level of independence and goal achievement that is quite commendable, considering all the developmental challenges he has faced growing up. Last September, Spencer launched ExpeditionSoaps.com, an online business that has grown to be quite successful. Along with this success, Spencer is grateful for his families love and support. Spencer has also achieved some personal goals that his parents once were told not likely possible. Spencer is currently progressing on his attaining his driver’s license, he is looking for a girlfriend and is beginning dual enrollment at a local University next fall (his 11th grade). Spencer also led his local High School Quiz Bowl team in victory these past 2 years. Spencer is here to share his inspiring story of how he became a young entrepreneur. *TRACIE KELLY - Panelist

tracie kellyTracie Kelly, a homeschool mother of two boys, ages 12 & 15, in which the older son has Asperger Syndrome. Upon recognizing his development wasn't typical, she began on the road of doctor visits, evaluations, speech, OT, & social therapists, chiropractic, and craniosacral therapy trying to find the support Spencer needed. Soon after, this led to seeking a biomedical approach to treating autism. Next, treatment included homeopathy and Juice Plus, which is whole food nutrition. All these therapies combined, over time, have helped Spencer achieve goals and independence. Tracie is attending the conference with her son Spencer, and both Tracie and Spencer will share their inspiring stories on different panels during the conference. Karen serves as Executive Director and Co-Founder of Autism Empowerment, a nonprofit organization based in Vancouver, Washington. She is the Editor of Spectrums Magazine and the podcast host for Autism Empowerment Radio. As an autistic woman, mother of two sons on the autism spectrum and a professional, Karen engages regularly in public speaking, writing and advocacy. In 2016, Karen was chosen to become a Peer Reviewer for the Department of Defense's Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program for Autism and is one of the only autistic adults to ever serve in that role. **MATTEO MUSSO- Panelist

Matteo is a 13 year old boy with autism. After being silenced behind the veil of autism for almost 12 years, Matteo found his voice using the Rapid Prompting Method. Letter by letter, he shares profound insight with the world through poetry, writing and speaking. Matteo’s first book, Handbook of Us: Understanding and Accepting People with Autism, offers Matteo's enlightening insight about life, love, autism, and God. Matteo just spoke at Mayo Clinic to doctors, nurses, and employees about how to work with autistic people. He also received the Temple Grandin Award 2017 from Las Positas College, Psychology Department. His main message: Assume intelligence, look beyond what you see to learn the truth. Matteo is in Boy Scouts, enjoys the symphony, opera, theater, art, gymnastics, swimming, cooking, camping, and piano lessons.

*ZACK PETER - Panelist

Zack Peter is a writer, producer, podcast host, and autism activist. He has published a total of four books, including the memoir, A Shot of Hope: Real Wisdom from a Real Sibling Warrior Providing Real Hope for Autism. You can follow his family’s journey featured in the forthcoming documentary, Sibling Warrior: Healing My Brother’s Autism. He currently works with Generation Rescue, Jenny McCarthy's non-profit organization offering hope and immediate treatment assistance to families affected by autism. His accolades include being named one of 2009's Teens That Inspire by Examiner.com, being awarded Outstanding Youth Volunteer by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and being a two-time WEGO Health Awards nominee. *TOBI BURCH RATES - Panelist

ratesTobi has been the Executive Director of the Autism Society of Oregon since October 2011. Prior to becoming Executive Director, she served on the Board of Directors for ASO as a volunteer. She previously practiced law in the Washington, DC metro area and in Boulder, Colorado. Tobi and her husband are the proud parents of two children, both of whom are on the autism spectrum. Her older son has a relatively mild form of autism, while her younger son is more severely impacted by autism. Tobi has been involved with the autism community since moving to Oregon in 2008. Having contacts in the community was invaluable to learning how to navigate the educational, medical, governmental and community support systems available here. Mentoring parents new to the autism diagnosis and/or new to Oregon and supporting self-advocacy for people on the autism spectrum are areas of particular interest.

*MEGAN SMITH-HARRIS - Panelist

smith harrisMegan Smith-Harris is the president and co-owner of Pyewackitt Productions, an independent production company with a commitment to create high quality, socially relevant programs with a unique perspective. Megan produced and directed The BUDDY SYSTEM, a film which highlights the heartwarming bond between specially trained Autism-Assistance Dogs and Children on the Spectrum. The Buddy System will be screened at the USAAA 2017 12th Annual Conference & Expo, Saturday night, August 26. There will be a Q&A with Megan after the screening for conference attendees. An award-winning filmmaker, Megan's last film, Trial By Fire, qualified for Oscar(R) consideration and is currently being distributed by PBS. Lara Stolman is the producer and director of SWIM TEAM, which will premiere in Oregon at the USAAA 2017 12th Annual Conference & Expo, Thursday night, August 24. For Swim Team, Lara's first feature documentary film, she was named an IFP Documentary Lab Fellow, awarded the New York Women in Film and Television Loreen Arbus Disability Awareness grant and was provided with funding from the Karma Foundation, Easterseals and the Aetna Foundation. Lara's work has appeared on NBC, MSNBC, TLC, AMC, VH-1 and The New York Times' website. Lara is the parent of a child with autism.
