Rebecca School - Michael Koffler (founder of Rebecca School) noticed that children diagnosed on the autistic spectrum were underserved in New York. He set out to build a school age program for children on the spectrum. In the spring of 2004, he approached Tina McCourt (who at the time was the Program Director at the Early Intervention Center of Brooklyn) and asked if she wanted to be involved. She had a strong belief that a relationship-based approach was the best way to serve and help children diagnosed on the spectrum relate and communicate. Michael agreed and they set out to design a building and a program that would fully integrate the DIR® model. The school opened in September 2006 with 48 students and 53 staff members. Since then the student population has more than doubled and continues to grow each year.

*Seiji's Bridge was inspired by the CEO's younger brother, Stefan Seiji. Stefan lives with autism and struggles to verbally communicate his thoughts and needs. Growing up together was really hard for these brothers. They didn't understand how to create meaningful interactions or communicate effectively. In high School, Stefan found interest in music and physical activities. Seiji's Bridge was able to physically take these concepts and create a solution, an invention for these two brothers. The DiscJam was born. The first time Stefan Seiji and his brother used the DiscJam together, they were able to laugh, sing, and dance, in a whole new way, like never before. Seiji's Bridge has created two multi-sensory tools that facilitate more meaningful interactions for these two brothers. These tools are the DiscJam and Eli Ball. At Seiji's Bridge, we solve problems for those with special needs.
